The R Street corridor has grown up recently and become a hip little area. We've been to R15 many times, the Shady Lady, Burger & Brews - and tonight Magpie Caterers Market & Cafe.

NakedBob worked with one of the owners, Ed at a now defunct restaurant 1201. We warned Ed we would be invading a few weeks ago and worn his special, very small, very white shorts.

It's a smallish place with counter service and a fab way to do the menus! The menu is constantly changing so they just binder clip the printed menu to a cut up piece of waxed cardboard that is left over from their produce delivery. All of them are stuck in a paper bag that has been binder clipped to the beam/pole in the middle of the space. Brilliant! I love this place already!

The deli case is filled with delicious looking salads, meats & cheeses. The counter has baked goods. There is a wall of wine and a few taps. Wine menus gets the same binder clip treatment.

So, we order a grilled artichoke with aioli and it was delish. Barbera for $6 a glass was surprising good and the special beer is Pliny the Elder - you have to love it for the dorky historical angle and it was yummy, with it's slight fruit undertone. Winner!

Our 12 people took over about a third of the place and ordered everything from figs and cured meats, chicken for two, salmon linguine, to nicoise salad. Everyone had dessert too, which rarely happens. Do yourself a favor and go try a carrot cake cookie - heaven, I can't even describe it to you.

Ed & Janel came out and chatted for a while after things slowed down. Ed even brought out a chocolate mousse that had no dairy. The creaminess came from coconut and avocado and you would never know. It was decadent. Also found out that after Mulvaney B&L & the Waterboy, he gets the most organic/local stuff in the Sacramento area. Cheers for making that sort of selection very accessible, but not dumbing it down!

Bottom line: Go there. Good people. Good food. Nice vibe. Say the Thursday Drunks sent you.

Happy Birthday to our dearest Sluggy! The maker of all puppets! Her wish is our command and she wished us all to Streets of London in Folsom. It's a favorite of ours because they can deal with our 15 people, they have good beer and full bar, and the fish and chips (as well as other food), always hits the spot once you start with the beer & full bar.

Little Fussarella has learned Bump's name - love teaching a child the important things in their formative years. Also had a guest star, Kelli, who went to high school with a large contingent of the drunkies. She truly is one of us in spirit and hopes she comes out more often!

So, with 15 people, booze, a pool table, loud music and a general sense of fun-making, we were all over the place in location and conversation. It was a constant game of musical chairs.

The only common thread throughout the night was the "or" conversations. Which would you rather be...

We trekked out to Curtis Park this week to Pangaea Cafe. It's a whole new area for us, but after a couple of scouting missions, we were sure Pangaea was a nice fit for us. It's located next to the Gunther's ice cream shop that has been there since the dawn of time

Quite a few drunks were missing this week, but we supplemented our numbers with some Pangaea regulars, Ricardo, Linda & Jeff. Add in chatting with the owner Rob, and awesome food giver Erika and it felt like a full house.

The have a lovely selection of Belgian beers both on tap and bottled. The girl favorite was Kasteel Rouge that tastes like cherries! The rest were all over the map with the on tap selections.

Now to the food! Overall, the food is yummy. Very yummy. The Ruben, which was a special was piping hot and super savory. The lemon chicken panini was just lemony enough. Roast beef was well received and everyone had happy full bellies. The food here is simple and good but not boring.

We rarely go to coffee/cafe places, because they don't turn around at night to be as fun as you would expect. This place does. The staff and owner are truly nice people who are also fun and have enough of a sense of humor that they don't mind getting a little louder once the sun goes down.

Plus after you're all full of beer and food, you can walk across the street for some ice cream. What could be better?

Oh, it's the birthday of Captain Crabby Pants!!! Oh yes it is!!! He loves him some Chicago Fire so we are back.

It's the Thursday Market season in old Folsom so we were expecting the worst. To our happy surprise, their parking garage is now open and it's only $2. AND it's a donation to the Folsom Museum. Well alright, you have yourself a deal!

We ordered the birthday boy a Sassy Pants which was just really good vodka and a lot of sugar. But he drank it with girlie flair.

The food in this joint never disappoints. We had a little bit of everything. Some super crispy thin crust, dough and delicious deep dish and the heart attack stuffed pizza. All were outstanding and we rolled out of there. Also had some salads (all were good) and an artichoke that is so good, I never want to know how they make it.

Boys drank beer, girls drank the usual Slug Gulch Red. Gifts and recycle greeting cards were handed around and Crabby got one hell of a handmade puppet! Sluggy, you rock!

Noteworthy news today was the death of John Hughes. If you never met us, you would instantly know our age by the fact that John Hughes movies were pretty much formative to our personalities. It's a sad day and we've lost a little bit of our misunderstood adolescence.
