Pangaea - Two Brews Cafe

2743 Franklin Boulevard
Sacramento, CA 95818
(916) 454-4942

Pangaea - Two Brews (coffee & beer), get it? Well, it's Sacramento Beer Week and we decided to come back to one of our favorites. It's set up like a coffee shop but with a small bar near the counter. If you sit there, you will see the 14 different beers on tap, most of them Belgian. Do yourself a favor, stop by here after work and get a lesson in beer from Rob the owner.

So, it's beer week so we know it would be busy and it was packed! Started off the night drinking the mythical Water Witch from Odonata Beer and it was all kinds of tasty. Moved on to the Grimbergen, a Saison (which I can't remember the name of), Two Rivers Cider, Malheur (my new favorite, a strong 12%), and Dogfish that had a woodsy flavor.

You just can't go wrong with the selection here, you will try, but won't get through them all. The food was tasty as ever, but they were running way behind because of all the people. And we had some sausages from the Bicycle Chef dinner the day before. Might have been the best sausage I've had. Won my new title "sausage queen".

I can't quite explain why this night was so much fun. Lots of people, many of whom we randomly befriended, hanging out with Rob & Kendra, a giant bag of corks for TheJenny, sharing beers with Ricardo, running into Colleen, and just general hijinks and a fabulous time!

It's always fun to come here, but Sacramento Beer Week really took it to a whole new level. And we had so many guest signatures in the journal, woot!

Baked Potato Bar - Chez Slug et Crab

Undisclosed Cameron Park Location

Our once monthly house-hosted Thursday took us to Chez Slug & Crab for a baked potato bar. Anything that you can add your own toppings to, just has to be tasty. Especially when you have bacon. Other toppings, mushrooms slathered in sour cream, just the sour cream, chives, crispy onions, tomatoes, cheddar cheese, and something else I can't remember.

Other items on the agenda, picking the beer for the Sea Ranch keg. Tonight's options are all Rogue beers. Tough life.

After we were all full of baked potatoes, ding dongs, wine & beer half the group moved over to play a zombie game (now with expansion pack!) while the other half got into a booze fueled conversation including: personal responsibility, abortion, gay marriage, term limits, corporate lobbyists, health care, palm oil, Israel, religion, China, zombies, education and horse fetishes.

And the RobotGoBen & Bumpy got their birthday puppets! We are complete! Thursday Drunks puppet portrait will be forthcoming.

It was a good night!

Sandra Dee's Barbeque & Seafood

Sandra Dee's
601 15th Street
Sacramento, CA 95814-1612
(916) 448-6375

I can't express how good the food is at Sandra Dee's. And I can't figure out why it has taken us years to come back! It's good old fashion southern comfort food and they know how to make it. Chicken & waffles, tri tip, pulled pork, collard greens, red beans & rice, hushpuppies, fried chicken, catfish, corn muffins, red velvet cake, mac & cheese, ribs... your mouth is watering, I can tell.

The service always has a side of sass which is fabulous! The fried chicken takes a long time to make so by the time we got our food, we were starving. We actually cheered when our waitress brought out the food.

I'm pretty sure they put some sort of addictive substance in their fried chicken because we couldn't stop talking about it. They only serve beer & wine, but we heard rumor that their full bar license is coming soon. Woohoo! We will have to come back more than once every two years.

I want to go there now.
