Rubicon Brewing Company

2004 Capitol Avenue
Sacramento, CA 95811
(916) 448-7032

We haven't been here in years because no one has brought it up. A sometimes drunk requested it so it went on the list. The place is a good size, with would you would expect for food from a brewery. The beer they make is delicious, there is no doubt about that. But for the rest, we sort of figured out why we haven't been back - the food is underwhelming.

The service is good, but the food is just meh. A few of us ordered the potato leek soup since it sounded good. One person got it at the beginning and it was seriously room temperature. Other people got it later and it wasn't much better. Someone sent it back, very apologetic asking for it to be heated up a little and it came back out room temperature again. That's just not awesome.

All the rest of the food was okay, nothing special. Bottom line? Go here for the beer and be happy! It's great! And if you are drinky enough, order some snacks because that will work.

And due to the review above, the photos are of the happy hour at Kupros, which is the best part of what they do. Three appetizers for $10. So between the two - you are set for a lovely evening!

Turf Wars Appreciation & Viewing Party

Undisclosed Roseville Location with a Kick-ass Yard!

Ever seen Turf Wars on the DYI network? Yeah, two of our drunks were totally on that show! What a crazy little world we live in. Over the summer, a bunch of us drunks helped out on an episode of Turf Wars. It was a wacky 36 hours of hard labor, standing around, and signing away our rights to be on TV and eat at craft services. All in all, it was SOOOO cool!

Alas, our yard did not win, but we truly think it's better and more timeless than the competition. Our gracious hosts threw a barbecue for all the helpers and we watched the show after. The competition (who lives across the street) were there too and there was a lot of good natured ribbing.

Bottom line. It was awesome and so are we!

Revolution Wine & Bistro

2831 S Street
Sacramento, CA 95816
(916) 444-7711

This was a first. In almost 10 years we have never cancelled a Thursday Drunks but we were perilously close to it this week! A few were out of town, some at a concert, some on call. It almost turned out to be a bust, until The Jenny pulled it together and rounded up 5 drunks! That's not even the smallest group we have had so kudos to The Jenny!

Revolution is one of our go to places since it has more of a casual wine bar feel and less like a restaurant. Lots of time to hang out and chat without eating a full meal or feeling rushed. The new location has much more space, a lovely porch and a great coffee shop next door. They will even go get you coffee and tack it onto your bill if you are nice. Check it out for a wine tasting or happy hour glass of wine!

YD House

8979 Folsom Blvd
Sacramento, CA 95826
(916) 366-6698

I'm a Korean food newbie. I've always wanted to try it, but it seemed a little daunting to go by myself so we pulled in our friend John who loves the YD House to be our guide. First off, it's in a crappy strip mall off of Howe and Folsom. Which depending on your point of view could make it promising or not. I vote for promising!

The menu, which you can see below is pretty large with some challenging items and all sorts of non challenging options. This place is very small and there is only one server, so bring your patience and try to order all your stuff at one time just to speed things up. We thought she was perfectly nice, but I've heard differently from some.

I googled some of the booze while we were perusing the menu and ordered a few that sounded good. And they brought the whole bottle for the very reasonable price on the menu! Win! And the small sake-style glasses had lovely Korean ladies in the bottom - so that was fun.

With every order, you get a huge assortment of about 10-12 different little tidbits. Pickles, tofu, wee little whole fish. We didn't know what it all was, but we sure liked it!

We ordered way to much food from egg crepes to spicy pork & tofu soup, cold pork and much more. We really have to go back for the fried chicken as well. So many options! Take a nice group of friends and share everything...it's freaking delicious!
