El Azteca & the Birth of Shooter

4006 Foothills Blvd, Ste 103
Roseville, CA 95747
(916) 772-6682

It's Shooter's birthday! El Azteca is close to him and damn tasty so it's the perfect choice! You order at the counter or bar and pick your table. They keep costs down that way, and it's noticeable. The margarita's are huge, strong and affordable. They are in the middle of an expansion as well - good news for us!

We took over a very large amount of table to make a lovely large square for about 18 people. So proud. The food is very good too! Everyone approves.

Oh, and congrats to Shooter and his Anna...newly engaged. Thursday Drunks wedding? Oh, yes please!

Red Rabbit Kitchen & Bar

2718 J St
Sacramento, CA 95816
(916) 706-2275

New place! New place! We love checking out new places, especially when they are good! We had a large group and they put us in the semi-private room near the porch that has it's own outside porch section - fancy! The cocktails are well done, Shady Lady like if you know that sort of drink. The appetizer of mushroom fries seems simple, but are so darn tasty! Thick slices of portabella mushrooms, deep fried an not greasy at all.

Dinner was all over the place. We ordered everything from the burger to the watermelon three ways. Everyone liked their food and our server was all sorts of cheeky and awesome! The place is swanky and well done. Perfect for happy hour or an splashy night out.

Boneshaker Public House

2168 Sunset Boulevard
Rocklin, CA 95765
(916) 259-2337

Come to find out a few of the drunks went to high school with the guy who opened this place. Awesome public house in Rocklin? Yes, please! Damn, Rocklin needs it. Aside from Applebee's and other crappy chains, there just isn't much to choose from.

The beer selection is well thought out and has some really great options to choose from. The food? Fabulous! The mac n' cheese is great and the nachos could fee an army. This is a place that totally gets it. It's small, you be prepared to sit on the porch. If you are lucky enough to get a table inside, you will have some convivial, drinky fun. Good times and a great place.

Drunks approve!!

Heat Shabu Baru

2416 18th St, Ste E
Sacramento, CA 95818
(916) 930-9888

We love us some Shabu Shabu. Broth, raw meat and a pile of veggies - it's basically a Japanese fondue so it take a long time, it's social and it's delicious. There is one other place in town that does this so we had to try both!

And the verdict is that they are just different! Ambiance is better at Shabu Fondue, broths have more options at Heat, assortment of stuff is about the same. We really hope both places survive because they are a fun option to have around and pretty damn affordable for that amount of food you eat. We worry though, with the number of folks we see in both. Hang on Shabu places! You fill a much needed niche that we can't find outside of San Francisco!

If you haven't done Shabu before, please try it out. It's so yummy and such a fun time. They even let you pick more than one broth type if you just can't decide.
