Boxing Donkey

300 Lincoln St, Roseville, CA
(916) 797-3665

BUMP IS OLD!!! Bumpy Truck had a birthday and we went to Boxing Donkey for some post-Christmas grub and booze. We took over most of the main area with a really good showing of Drunks! Their was a blow up reindeer that deflated and tried to trap us cause that happens.

Between the Guinness and the gin & tonics - we were happy drunks. We missed happy hour but then found out they serve tater tots now! Oh, yeah, that's right. Grilled sandwiches, burgers AND tater tots? Holy fried-potatoes Batman.

The Hobbit: Desolation of Smaug

6692 Lonetree Blvd
Rocklin, CA ‎
(916) 772-1210

And now, a review of the Hobbit by The Jenny...

My review of The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug. Long movie. However, less long/boring than its predecessor. Beorn, while formidable as a bear, kinda looks like Teen Wolf when he changes. Scary realistic looking giant spiders! Magic spider translation ring of power! "What's that? What's that?" Elves have such pretty hair, like they just stepped out of a salon. Not sure who's hair was prettier, Tauriel or Thranduil. Also, I thought elves didn't get drunk. BARRELS! Wooo! Most epic flume ride ever. Recursive Infinite Saurons! White orb vs. black smoke. Scary voice! Wait. Pugs cannot live in Lake-town! They don't swim and dislike the cold. I think they don't like Bard in that town because he's the only one who seems to shower and he doesn't have festering boils on his face. Should rename the place Harkonnen City. Good thing the dwarf-loving lady-elf got written in to the story, she seems real handy to have around. Sweet dragon with sooo much treasure. Slinking around under the mountain. He's going to get himself into trouble being that smug. Smawwwg. Giant butter dwarf! Those pugs in Lake-town are going to pay now... ‎

Masullo & Scribby's Birthday

2711 Riverside Blvd
Sacramento, CA 95818
(916) 443-8929

It was my birthday so I picked Masullo. I seem to come here every other year for my birthday Thursday (trading with Magpie Cafe for the other years). Robert the owner is very nice and always takes care of us even though we are a large group that sort of shows up and eats in shifts - drunks with kids starting early and drinks without kids showing up later.

The pizzas are amazing - best in Sacramento! They have a great selection of wines, antipasti and their salads are great too. We were lucky enough to have the husband of the lovely lady that supplies some of their wines and he asked for the Palazzo Della Torre which is sort of a baby Amarone without the cost. It was amazing. We had at least four bottles of that one.

The Bump tried on small puffy vests of girls, we ate lots of desserts and generally enjoyed the evening.

Cafe Marika & Brian's Birthday

2011 J St
Sacramento, CA 95811
(916) 442-0405

This place is a tiny little gem in the middle of Midtown Sacramento. Run by just a husband and wife and seating about 20 people it is a small operation to say the least. The menu is short but everything is delicious. Homemade spatzel, rich sauces and spices make all the food good. Just beer & wine, but that's okay.

It was Brian's birthday and he is continuing the tradition of asking for toys that he then donates to Toys for Tots. It's a fun was to make him open pink unicorns or buy those toys that you've always wanted but don't really need.

A little kid at the counter could not stop staring at the gifts since it was like a Christmas parade of things he wanted.

Drink with your Family Day

The one Thursday a year that we don't get together for Thursday Drunks. Instead, we drink with our families!

Thursday Night Football

Undisclosed Roseville Location

We crashed a Roseville house and had BBQ take out (that was amazing!) and watched some football. Okay, let's be honest, we played Cards Against Humanity while we listened to football.

Also what goes with barbecue and football? Champagne bar. Totally.

Tres Hermanas

2416 K St
Sacramento, CA 95816
(916) 443-6919

Our Drunks with Kids have come up with a great way to be a part of Thursday. They show up at the place around 6ish so the kids can eat and they can still get home in time for bed, but they get to hangout for a wee bit as the childless show up for the night. That is some resourceful shit.

Tres Hermanas is always busy and even in November we end up on the porch but they have lovely heaters and it's pretty damn comfortable. Their cilantro dressing is delicious so you can't go wrong with any salad. Their meatball soup is amazing so that's always a winner as well. The ceviche is solid and a huge serving. I have no idea what is in the refried beans (and I don't want to know), but I could live off the beans and flour tortillas!

Their bar is small but well stocked and even their house margarita is solid. Also, come here for breakfast after a late night of drinking and you will not regret it!

#mehairb Yosemite Wedding

Nairb is one of our founding Thursday Drunks that has been a pillar of Thursdays over the last 10 years. And now he is married! The lovely bride and groom traveled to an equally lovely Yosemite valley to be married at the Ahwahnee Hotel. It was amazing.

When they turned to walk down the aisle all the drunks, in their classy way, put on magical unicorn heads to meet the new couple. So many unicorns!

But seriously, we couldn't be happier for the amazing couple and for being included in their day. Also, we dog piled the groom and he waved from the bottom. Class act.

Gorgeous!!
Classy drunk unicorns
Traditional dog pile of the groom

Keeping ourselves busy during the weekend

Kind of gorgeous

Emily & Darla's Cocktail Night

Undisclosed Rocklin Location

Emily & Darla took a bartending class with the guys from Shady Lady during Midtown Cocktail Week. They acquired some bad skills and decided to treat us to some tipples on Halloween night. Costumes abounded, drinks were had and mad respect was earned for some top-shelf cocktails.

The Rind

1801 L St #40
Sacramento, CA 95811
(916) 441-7463

Some of the drunks have visited the Rind many times since it opened, but it is small and usually very busy so we've taken our time to get here on an official Thursday. Damn, it's tasty and crowded!

A few of us got there early and made some space at the bar. That helped facilitate drink getting for the rest of the group as they showed up. We had a two-tiered bar system for a while as we waited to carve out some space.

A special thanks to the two douchebags in suits that kept getting up from their table and then sitting back down laughing because they were going to keep their table. Yes, we're all 12 years old. I'm sure the servers were happy about you taking up space and not ordering anything as well. Classy.

All of their mac & cheese is amazing and not your usually combos. Browned butter and sage anyone? The cheese selection is great but it's sometime hard to get good suggestions and descriptions when the place is busy. Try going a little earlier in the evening for maximum cheese nerdiness.

The grilled cheese selection is great as well. Okay, really all the food is amazing and comforting and cheesy and delicious. Good beer and wine selection as well. Sometimes the service takes a while but that doesn't really matter since you should be having a good time hanging out.

Mac & cheese to die for

French Dip Night with the Doctors

Undisclosed Elk Grove Location

The Doctors can host a Thursday! Who makes French Dip sandwiches from scratch? No pictures were taken because we wolfed them down without breathing. Delicious!

Boxing Donkey

300 Lincoln St
Roseville, CA 95678
(916) 797-3665

Did this night even happen? I don't know but this is what it says in the calendar and we never miss a Thursday so it must have happened.

Here is what I assumed happened:
We took over the corner table
Guinness was had
Irish egg rolls were eaten
The Journal was written in
Servers were hassled
Bartenders were tipped
Conversation was loud
Penises were drawn

Typical Thursday.

LowBrau

1050 20th St
Sacramento, CA 95811
(916) 706-2636

We had a great showing of Thursday Drunks and a load of sometimes drunks (even from Spain!) this week! Sausages were eaten, beer was swilled, talking was loud.

Tank House BBQ

1925 J St
Sacramento, CA 95811
(916) 431-7199

This place is a great addition to Midtown. The barbecue is pretty darn good and one of the few places you can get slow cooked ribs in the area. The decor is a fun modern, southern chic and they serve tater tots so I approve.

The Beast Feast is the way to go with a group since it's a whole of of things for just $32. The full bar is nice with the BBQ as well. Hot links, ribs, greens and tots seemed to be the favorite of the drunks.

Definitely check them out.

Reel GOOD Market

1409 Del Paso Blvd
Sacramento, CA 95815

The GOOD Design Market is a unique and wonderful little venture that pops up on Del Paso Blvd every first Sunday of the month. It is packed full of local vendors, food, cocktails, music and art.

This summer, they also added on a bike-in movie night which added food trucks and local restaurants slinging street food. The night we went they were showing Pee Wee's Big Adventure. We were so impressed with the set up, quality of food, vendors and cocktails.

Well done. We will be back to this one.

Oh, and a Vesper Martini at Enotria just down the street before it opened wasn't so bad either.

Uncle Vito's

1501 16th Street
Sacramento, CA 95814

Sometimes you just need cheap and easy. Uncle Vito's in Midtown is just that place. The giant slices of pizza are cheap and delicious with all sorts of optional shake-on seasonings and spices to choose from. Their thai chili fries are amazing and their drinks are solid. They even had 21st Ammendent Hell or High Watermelon on tap. Damn.

Fat's Asian Bistro

1500 Eureka Rd
Roseville, CA 95661
(916) 787-3287

The Double Dragon is a giant bowl of booze with straws and flowers. We love it. Fat's always comes through with some delicious dishes like their orange chicken, garlic green beans and almost everything else on their menu.

Alas, I was working that night and have no other details or photos.

Hot Italian

1627 16th St
Sacramento, CA 95814
(916) 444-3000

A large group is always fun at Hot Italian with you can get the big round table. They have a huge selection of pizzas, Peroni by the pitcher and tasty house prosecco and wine that makes for a fun evening.

They even have a non-dairy cheese for our lactose intolerant drunk.

Cornetto Trilogy

520 N Sunrise Ave
Roseville, CA 95661
(916) 772-1245

Affectionately called the Cornetto Trilogy, the Thursday Drunks enjoyed a movie marathon of Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz and the premier of World's End. A flask, some popcorn and hours upon hours of entertainment. We even had our own Shaun.

Wow, we kind of seem like dorks now don't we.

Eva's/Nela's Mexican Restaurant

242 Vernon St
Roseville, CA 95678
(916) 783-9992

We still can't seem to call this place Nela's since they changed their name from Eva's. Old fashioned affordable, piping hot and delicious Mexican food. The crispy shredded beef taco is the best thing ever. Deep fried and amazing.

Also, the squeezy bottle of hot sauce is the best thing ever. Amazing on their ranch salad as well.
