Nairb's Chicken & Waffles

Mama Sue's Soul Food Kitchen
10113 Folsom Blvd

Rancho Cordova, CA 95670

(916) 363-3977

And an undisclosed Rancho Cordova location.

We love our Nairby! Since we're a classy lot, we show our love by inviting ourselves over to your house against your will. But at least we bring food!

In this weeks edition of the most delicious Thursday food, we picked up chicken & waffles from Mama's Sue's Soul Food Kitchen on Folsom. It used to be Holy Chicken & Waffles and it looks like it hasn't changed at all! Except now the special is $1 more. But for $6, yes, just $6 you get a cinnimon belgian waffle with two pieces of chef's choice fried chicken! Seriously good deal.

A lot of people claim that they "don't get" chicken & waffles. Might I just suggest that you TRY it once before stating this? Come on, it won't kill you and then you won't sound so much like a closed-minded weenie. Too harsh? Yeah, doesn't mean it's not true.

Samuel Horne's Tavern

719 Sutter Street

Folsom, CA 95630

(916) 293-8207

For such a tiny place, this place is stocked up on fine beers! And with a good sized food menu as well. The drunks try to come here when we are light on peeps since it is so small. This week, we could have been smaller. When we showed up there were exactly two seats available while getting cozy with a very quiet but nice man. We then proceeded to take over his whole area. We didn't mean too, but drunks kept showing up! Dear sir, if I ever see you again, I owe you a beer...or two...or three. We're sorry.

Since they have a full bar as well, it's a good option for all. The burger was really tasty. We went with the Johnny Cash burger. The salad was pretty much the most boring thing I've eaten in a long time. Just stick with the bad for you options where they really shine!

Basic Urban Kitchen & Bar

112 Pacific Street
Roseville, CA 95678
(916) 749-4641

We've been regulars here since they opened since the thin, amorphous pizzas are build-you-own and damn tasty. It has been through some identity crisis over the years...sometimes more restaurant, more often more bar.

New owners came in and added some more tables (thank goodness), so now it doesn't free like a big cavernous brick hall. A bit more friendly and the same sassy bartenders, great pizza and nice happy hour.

Happy hour includes $5 giant beers, $8 small 3-topping pizzas (which are totally enough for two people) and half price appetizers to mention a few. And they go until 7pm.

If you haven't been here, bring a couple of friends and try a little of everything. Especially the mashed potatoes on a pizza with white sauce, bacon and green onions. Damn!

Yeah, that's just about right.

Buckhorn Grill

Sacramento, CA 95811

MEAT! MEAT! MEAT!

Sometimes we forget about this place. It's unassuming with it's walk-up-and-order style, beer & wine menu and ample seating. But really, the meat is so damn good!

Flavorful, charred, tender and meaty. So good. The boy drunks were in meaty, carnivore heaven!

Bows & Arrows, Fat Face

1815 19th Street
Sacramento, CA 95811
(916) 822-5668

How the hell did I not take picture of this whole evening! Blogger fail.

So, Fat Face is in the back of Bows & Arrows (a vintage store with a gallery area). They have interesting beers and wines, and Jaymes from Fat Face has a fabulous menu of local and seasonal foods. Like cola braised pork sandwiches, beer poached fig and goat cheese sandwiches, fun salsas like strawberry jicama, and lots more. Also, their first love, handmade popsicle are on the menu!

The whole place has great little seating vignettes, and a gorgeous porch ladened with plants and vintage furniture. We took over the back with over a dozen drunks and just hung out for hours. You just drink, talk, get a snack, drink more, talk more and repeat.

Such a great space and a wonderful kicked back vibe. Drunks approve.
