Masullo Pizza, Birth of Scribby

2711 Riverside Blvd
Sacramento, CA 95818
(916) 443-8929

Oh Masullo, my favorite pizza in Sacramento. Where else would I go for my birthday! We took over a large communal table with a rotating crew of drunks. As always, it was a delicious night of wine, pizza and friends. Thank you Masullo!

Trick Pony... I mean Masullo

2711 Riverside Blvd
Sacramento, CA 95822
(916) 443-8929

Since we went to Capital Dime it only seemed appropriate to hit up Trick Pony to polish off the Broderick's team of restaurants. Well, we found this...

So they closed down and will reopen with pizza and more rustic Italian options under a new name.

We went down the way to arguably our favorite pizza joint, Masullo. So yeah for us! A delicious evening of pizza, wine and drunks.

Hitchcook-tober at the Tower Theater

2508 Land Park Drive
Sacramento, CA 95818
(916) 442-0985

Oh, this one hurt a little. Again, since it was after a large Thursday shindig sometimes a little steam is lost. The Tower Theater was showing Dial M for Murder in 3D for Halloween. It was our smallest attendance yet of only a Robot GoBen and a Jarla. But it still counts!!

It was a dark day but our streak continues!

Much Ado About Nothing

Sacramento Shakespeare Festival
William A. Carroll Amphitheater
William Land Park

Damn we are fancy. Second year we've added the Shakespeare Festival to our Thursday agenda. This time around, Much Ado About Nothing for a funny little old tyme RomCom. Bring your own beer, wine, and snacks, try to avoid the picnic ants and settle in for some culture. This is one of the best summer traditions Sacramento has to offer.

YOU!!

Someone is making bank by renting his bottle opener!

Bunch of classy drunks.

Masullo & Scribby's Birthday

2711 Riverside Blvd
Sacramento, CA 95818
(916) 443-8929

It was my birthday so I picked Masullo. I seem to come here every other year for my birthday Thursday (trading with Magpie Cafe for the other years). Robert the owner is very nice and always takes care of us even though we are a large group that sort of shows up and eats in shifts - drunks with kids starting early and drinks without kids showing up later.

The pizzas are amazing - best in Sacramento! They have a great selection of wines, antipasti and their salads are great too. We were lucky enough to have the husband of the lovely lady that supplies some of their wines and he asked for the Palazzo Della Torre which is sort of a baby Amarone without the cost. It was amazing. We had at least four bottles of that one.

The Bump tried on small puffy vests of girls, we ate lots of desserts and generally enjoyed the evening.

Shakespeare in the Park

William A Carrol Amphitheatre
William Land Park

Damn, we are some FANCY drunks!! A whole slew of us packed up our best snacks and booze for an evening of Shakespeare in William Land Park. Twelfth Night was on the menu and it was done in a 70s disco style which was hilarious.

For a bunch of drunks, we are actually pretty well read, educated, and love us some smart punny high-brow comedy.

Who knew?!

And Creepy Baby Arm loved it too.

New Helvetia Brewery

1730 Broadway
Sacramento, CA 95818
(916) 469-9889

World colliding!! The night when Thursday Drunks and RED Elite running friends all went to New Helvetia. NH (as the runners like to call it) is a great new brewery on Broadway. Since they don't have a kitchen you can bring food in with you, order it from a nearby restaurant or check out the food trucks they have on rotation.

It's a great space with a nice list of beers for any palate. The RED Elite folks come here most Thursdays for the Sloppy Moose runs so the Thursday Drunks decided to crash the party...without the running.

New Hong Kong Wok

5019 Freeport Blvd
Sacramento, CA 95822
(916) 454-2828

Tucked under a bright yellow awning on Freeport Blvd, this gem of a restaurant is delicious as long as you are okay with a little adventure. A lot of the signs are not in English but they are more than helpful if you ask. The salt & pepper squid is delicious, we had a mountain of crab, fresh greens and crispy noodles covered in stir fry. Really good with a big group to share everything.

Disclaimer: This blog post was during the dark days of blogging lameness. My apologies for the crappy post.

Masullo

2711 Riverside Blvd
Sacramento, CA 95818
(916) 443-8929

I can't really say more about Masullo. Search for it on this blog and you will read all the reviews from all the times we've been here.

So, just for you - a cornucopia of Creepy Baby Hand photos! Creepy Baby Hand came from a zombie wedding bouquet that I made once. It now travels with us every week. It likes to touch people.

And don't miss out on another classic Portrait by Naked Bob at the bottom of the page. This one is of Jessica. Just lovely.

Dad's Kitchen

2968 Freeport Blvd
Sacramento, CA 95818
(916) 447-3237

Wow, we haven't been here since May 2010! Almost two years later and the main changes are that they added a huge outdoor tent over their patio so you can hang out in less friendly weather and have much more light. Downside is that when it is lovely outside, you can't really see it.

So this Thurdsay, we sat inside! To start the fried garbanzo beans are freakishly tasty. They have a lovely spice about them that makes you want more beer. Onion rings are huge and delicious as always and all their sandwiches were good. Add some sassy and helpful servers and this place is a win. They also have their own label house wine. Damn fancy.

Masullo & Birth of the Baker

2711 Riverside Blvd
Sacramento, CA 95818
(916) 443-8929

We can't get enough of the food and atmosphere at Masullo! Take a look at all the other times we've been there for a full review. It's been a hot location for birthdays and this is no different. Sometimes Drunk and pro baker John made a very wise choice.

And the coolest thing, is he tried out his new birthday toy by making a stop motion video of the night!

As you can see much pizza was eaten, and the wine flowed like well, wine! Happy birthday John, and thanks for letting us come back to Masullo so soon.

Jamie's Bar & Grill & Birth of Coach

427 Broadway
Sacramento, CA 95818

For the full story on Jamie's read the post from last January! There are so very many reasons why we like this place and that will explain a lot of them.

This time we were here celebrating Coach's birthday. He needed some good old fashion delicious food so this was perfect. The drinks are stiff and when one of the more manly members of the Thursday Drunks commented on it the sassy bartendress looked over her shoulder while walking away and yelled "Put your big boy pants on!" How can you not love it!

We were seated in the back room again and enjoyed an evening of perfectly cooked meaty dishes, fries and french onion soup. This is such a comforting and comfortable place - what's not to love. And always look at the specials board!

Masullo Pizzeria, Birth of Scribby

2711 Riverside Blvd
Sacramento, CA 95818
(916) 443-8929

I love birthdays. Especially when they are mine! So, since I got to pick our destination, I chose Masullo for really amazing pizza and half-price bottles of wine. That's right, half-price wine!

They don't take reservations but are very nice about trying their best to keep a large table open for your 15 drunken friends. And as long as you can get cozy it works just fine.

It's best to share pizzas so you can try more. The salads are also great...simple, fresh, yummy. I can't say how much I love their food. Go for and Eileen, Mustapha, Triani or Gilda, buy a couple of bottles & enjoy your night. I did.

Coach's Fire Pit

Brick Oven Pizza
1188 35th Ave
Sacramento, CA 95822
(916) 393-3320
And Undisclosed Land Park Location

Nothing is quite as relaxing as a house hosted Thursday! We invited ourselves over to Coach's house for some Brick Oven Pizza take out and some fire pit action.

The pizza at Brick oven is almost on a cracker crust and they combo with extra mushrooms will make your heart melt. Damn dependable and tasty.

After much pizza, we adjourned to the outside where the fire pit lives. Once day Coach and some friends decided to dig a large hole...I do believe booze was involved.

Well, lucky for us! On a chilly November night we hung out, made s'mores and flamed some marshmallows. We also got some burning smoke in the eye, but that comes with the territory.
