Every once in a while Christmas lands on a Thursday. So, we have a second drink with your family day. We hope you drank with yours as well.

Merry Drunk Christmas everyone!

Drinky Fondue Christmas

Undisclosed Placerville Location

Who does fondue for 23? We do! Every year we have a fondue dinner, secret santa and pink elephant gift exchange. And man, we do this well.

Meat fondue stepped up it's game this year with dino nuggets, tater tots and gyoza. Swiss fondue was cheesy and we added a Raclette grill, of course.

And we put 16 people into the new shower.

And Gavin found two more slips from his 2004 initiation where we hide hundreds of little slips in his belongings. The long running initiation. You've gotta love that.

Orange House Dinner

Undisclosed Roseville Location

Once again on the eve of a large off-Thursday shindig, we go small, simple and cozy. Tomorrow we feast on fondue and more booze than you can shake a stick at! So today, we have homemade minestrone soup, fresh baked bread and some Jacob's family hospitality. It was delicious!

Scribby's Birthday at Magpie

1409 R Street #102
Sacramento, CA 95811
(916) 452-7594

I can't help my love for Magpie Cafe. So it was my birthday choice. It's tough to get 15 drunks into the restaurant on a normal Thursday since they don't take reservation and they are usually packed! But we were lucky enough to have the #HellaStorm chase everyone away and keep people in their homes. Easy peasey!

Bubbles, wine, meats, cheeses, the most delicious veggie plate, corned pork, cookies, great service, rad staff - what more can a birthday girl ask for!

Brian's Birthday at La Trattoria

3649 J Street
Sacramento, CA 95816
(916) 455-7803

Brian is such a smart guy. For his birthday he took us to La Trattoria, a new one for the drunks. Even though I wasn't there, I know it was delicious because I got some leftovers. Hearty, flavorful Czech food that is perfect for a cold day.

And as is tradition, we bought amazing toys for Brian to donate to Toys for Tots but made him open them anyway.

Girls Killing Trees

Apple Hill

For at least 15 years, we have had a tradition of the lady drunks killing our Christmas trees. The recipe is simple.

1) Pile lady drunks into cars
2) Travel to Placerville for brekkie (this year was Sweetie Pie's)
3) Try to remember how to get to Robert's Christmas Tree Farm (the further away one), miss the road then finally find it.
4) Wander about, finally cutting down adorably unique trees
5) Hit Jack Russell Brewery (this time for cider)
6) Apple donuts
7) Wine tasting
8) Z-Pies

It's a solid tradition even in the rain & cold.

Drink With Your Family Day

If you can't drink with the drunks on one Thursday a year (Thanksgiving) then I guest you have to drink with your family!

Hideaway

2565 Franklin Boulevard
Sacramento, CA 95818
(916) 455-1331

We fall in love with this place each time we go here. A really solid bar, arguably the best burgers in town and easy to make a group of tables for over a dozen drunks. Delicious, easy, divey and so close to our hearts.

Iron Grill Korean BBQ

2030 Douglas Boulevard
Roseville, CA 95661
(916) 899-5448

We've never done a Korean BBQ place for a Thursday so this was a fun one! If you order the all-you-can-eat grill, you sit by an open grill and they bring you the huge assortment of pickled veggies and then piles of seasoned meats. They are surprisingly flavorful and much more tasty than I expected. They have individual items as well, but it's an all-or-nothing system so your whole party has to either do the do-it-yourself grill or you sit at a regular table and order your own dishes.

Full disclosure that I wasn't there (again) but I did just eat there for the first time last week.

Meanwhile, I was in Kauai.

Monk's Cellar

240 Vernon Street
Roseville, CA 95678
(916) 786-6665

All the Roseville drunks have been waiting patiently for the Monk's Cellar to open. Right on Vernon Street close to Nela's Mexican, it's a great little addition. It's also the closest bar in walking distance to The Jenny & Naked Bob, so you know...that doesn't suck.

Again, I wasn't there so I can't speak much more about it other than everyone loves it. I'll need to hit it up soon to make peace with my drinky soul.

Hitchcook-tober at the Tower Theater

2508 Land Park Drive
Sacramento, CA 95818
(916) 442-0985

Oh, this one hurt a little. Again, since it was after a large Thursday shindig sometimes a little steam is lost. The Tower Theater was showing Dial M for Murder in 3D for Halloween. It was our smallest attendance yet of only a Robot GoBen and a Jarla. But it still counts!!

It was a dark day but our streak continues!

Famous Musician Halloween Party

Undisclosed Roseville Location

If there is one thing (after drinking) we do well, it's costumes. Give us a theme and we will rock it. The Jenny & Naked Bob have been hosting Halloween for as long as I can remember...which means for about 10 years or so. Always themed and always awesome.

This year, famous musicians. This is a small sampling.

Halloween punch in the making. It's lethal.

Jalisco Mexican

9290 Sierra College Blvd #100
Roseville, CA 95661
(916) 788-1737

On the eve of a big shindig, we usually do something low key and cheap. Since the annual Halloween party was coming up on Saturday, we went with walk-up-and-order Mexican food. Jalisco is a local chain with solid options, good salsa and chips.

Nothing fancy, nothing to write home about but damn it hits the spot.

Block Butcher Bar

1050 20th St, Ste 100
Sacramento, CA 95811
(916) 476-6306

We've been wanting to hit up Block for an official Thursday since they opened, but the place is cozy small with mostly large booth that you can cram about 6 people into if your friends don't have cooties, and only one large community table. Since they don't take reservations, it was always a tough one for us.

Enter Twitter. One tweet with a side of friendliness with one of the owners and Thursday Drunks had the large table reserved for us! Wow, did we feel fancy! We crammed 12 drunks into our special table for some really amazing cocktails. Guy on a Buffalo and the Hemingway were the big winners that night.

The laundry list of dried and cured meats is incredible and may I suggest ordering anything you haven't heard of before. It works out well when we do it. Also, priority on what they make or cure in house. It's a real treat to have some great talent like this in Sacramento. It's also cool to see the giant butcher block, whole pigs and heads in the back. They aren't fucking around!

For the not meat-at-heart, their cheese selection is good, their sandwiches are delicious and their salads are top-notch. Overall, check this place out. It's perfect for sharing, a small bite or full meal. I'm working my way through their menu. A delicious job.

Boneshaker Community Brewery

4810 Granite Drive #A-1
Rocklin, CA 95677
(916) 672-6292

Boneshaker in Rocklin has always been a favorite but small enough that it's tough to go on a Thursday if it's not nice enough to use their patio space. So, we were pleased to see a second location with a bit more room! Larger menu, more space and a rustic, comfy feel to the place.

Alas, I wasn't there because I was gallivanting in Nashville and having a mind blowing evening at Husk. Hence the photos below.

Nashville

Uncle Vito's Pizza

1501 16th Street
Sacramento, CA 95814
(916) 444-3699

We always seem to hit Uncle Vito's this time of year when we start to get a little too busy and a little too poor. It's such a great reliable spot for cheap and easy Thursday. Usually enough space to accommodate us and ordering at the bar for food keeps it simple for drop in/drop out drunks. Also, you can't beat $8 for a giant slice of pizza and a beer.

Eastern Empire

460 Howe Avenue
Sacramento, CA 95825
(916) 646-1698

After a conversation with a bartender friend and one of his bar patrons, we were tipped off to this all-you-can-eat Chinese restaurant that make tiki drinks over by Sac State. Their cocktails are just pure booze with a little juice thrown in and if you have a hunger, check out their dinner. It's not a buffet, it's all cooked to order and you can pick off a very large menu to share with your table. This place is a gem.

Sacramento Burger Battle

Cesar Chavez Park

Yeah for us! The Sacramento Burger Battle landed on a Thursday. We rallied the troops and for $45 we ate amazing local burgers until we almost burst and had some lovely cocktails, beer and wine. It's totally worth the price, the park is filled with all the most fun Sacramento people and it's just something Sacramento should be proud of.

A little birdie told me that it might be on a Thursday next year as well. Challenge accepted!
