Oh, the old Monte Carlo never looked (or smelled) so good! The Shady Lady folks took over the little dive bar on the corner of S & 15th and turned it into a really find audiofile bar. It's nice and simple with strong drinks and all vinyl on the turntables. No food makes things simple and with so many restaurant options within a couple blocks, it's pretty perfect. We also hear that they still honor old Monte Carlo drink tokens for a well drink. Nice!

Robert Burns Dinner

Once a year, our Scottish Drunks host a dinner in honor of Robert Burns and his addressing of the haggis. It's a great evening of meat pies, tatties, neeps, whisky, ale, haggis, soda bread and so much more! It's a fine night that starts with poems and degrades into dirty limericks by the end.

Janie's birthday brought more than an dozen drunks out to Manderes to cram into a lovely awkward L shaped set of tables. Poor Darla was trap in the corner between to of the guys until we were able to rescue her. The food here is solid! Burgers and salads are all tasty and their lovely beer selection. They are always busy so be warned since service is sometimes a little slow. Always nice though!

Happy birthday to our very own Coach! With a solid 10 drunks in attendance, we tried to eat our giant plates of food, but even the heartiest of us failed. Man, the portions are big here! They still use lard and therefore their beans are crazy delicious. And we always get the flour chips as well...they're a can't miss item. This is the ulimate in comfort food. And with a bonus stop at Track 7 Brewing, it was a damn fine night.

Orchid Thai is one of the newer places on the P/Q & 16th block. Being a neighbor to Magpie, we sometimes can't pry ourselves out of the Magpie bar, but we managed it this week! With a full bar and cocktails, it's a nice addition to the area. They event have some fun things like fried rice for their weekend breakfasts. We'll have to come back and try it!
