Ju Hachi

1730 S Street
Sacramento, CA 95814
(916) 448-3481

Wow, we haven't done sushi for a while! With our hot summer days, nothing quite sounds as good as delicious sushi. We headed to Ju Hachi by Taka in midtown Sacramento. Our foodie friends agree that Taka is one of the best sushi chefs in the area.

We found a pretty small place with comfortable decor and very good sushi. Not the over done, over sauced, flashy sushi that so many people love. But simple, delicious, and damn fine quality sushi that people should seek out. They have happy hour specials all day long so you can get out of here cheap if you must.

Really though, spend the money and try something new. You won't regret it. This is a great antithesis to the rock n' roll, loud sushi bars that are focused on being a scene. Not that they don't have their place, but Ju Hachi is the place to go if you are looking for sushi first, meat market second.

Shooter's New House

Undisclosed Roseville Location

We've been hearing a lot about this house in old Roseville. After condo living, Shooter moved it up a notch by buying a house that used to be an old hotel...or so the rumors say.

Verdict? This place is rad! It has a sort of art deco feel to it, it's the only house on his street with a sidewalk in front of it, and he has (wait for it), remote control blinds!

House Thursday's are some of our favs because it's just a good old fashion party. Pizza, booze, too many conversations to keep track of, a gimp den. You know, the normal stuff.

We had a great showing of drunks and some new folks. That always helps the general fun of the evening.

Thanks Shooter!

Ernie's Interlude

2926 Eastern Ave
Sacramento, CA 95821
(916) 487-0349

We have a new lowbrow initiative! We are bringing back the dive bar! Well, it never really left, we are just trying to work one in once a month. First stop, the 'Lude!

Really sweet drinky decor? Check. Old guy hitting on everything with boobs? Check. Strong drinks? Check.

You get the idea. Best old guy pick up line: I'm a fire Marshall, are you on fire?

Priceless.

Bonn Lair

3651 J Street
Sacramento, CA 95816-5425
(916) 455-7155

A wee small group of drunks were left on their own while some were in Vegas, some were on vacation and some were doing work things.

This is what happened...

And probably more, but that is to come when the special journal is found and cataloged.

Pause Lounge

1465 Eureka Road
Roseville, CA 95661
(916) 772-1525

Pause Lounge is a posh addition to the Roseville area. It's open late (unheard of in those parts!) and serves very refined cocktails the likes of Shady Lady, Red Lotus, Ella, Grange and other well-known places in Sacramento.

Why Roseville you ask? Well, Bloom Coffee (best coffee in Roseville in my opinion), is the brain-child of two brothers. When the opened Pause in the same area, I was intrigued. Their food is refined but comfortable, the ingredients are top-notch, portion size is just fine as long as you're not a trucker or lumberjack and really it's just tasty!

They are very comfy with their social media so we found out about their no corkage fee Thursdays on the Twitter. Well that works for us! We gathered up about ten of the drunks and most of us started with cocktails. Their menu changes pretty often, but their aviation is one of the best in town for you gin drinkers.

For food, we ordered everything from the beer battered asparagus, grilled cheese and tomato soup, hamburger, mac n' cheese, coffee basted ribs, creamy anchovy dressed salad, calamari - yeah, we got it all. Plus, they were kind enough to put out a lovely meat and cheese spread with some impressive selections.

Everyone really like the food. I would say the stand outs were the coffee ribs and grilled cheese and tomato soup. Freaking delicious.

I know this place isn't up every one's alley, but I love it. I wouldn't hesitate to take out of town guests for cocktails and appetizers, and it's a great place to get a late night snack without having to go some place douchy in Roseville.

Masullo, the birth of TheJenny

2711 Riverside Boulevard
Sacramento, CA 95818
(916) 443-8929

Personally, I am so happy TheJenny wanted to go here! It's a tiny little pizza place in Land Park and on Thursday nights they do half-priced bottles of wine. Yes please!

We knew we would have at least a dozen people so we got there a little early and took over one of the large communal tables. Then we crammed 22 people around it! Well, really we took shifts sitting and standing and eating and chatting.

They only have a wood-fired brick oven. No stove. Their menu is a simple one of light, fresh salads, thin crust pizzas with quality ingredients and some smaller bites like rosemary almonds and a really fun antipasti plate.

With so very many drunks in attendance and so very many bottles of wine consumed, I'll go ahead and say that Jenny's birthday rocked! She even got an ice cream sandwich for dessert.

Bottom line, this place is awesome. Bring some friends so you can share lots of different pizzas, and go on a Thursday if you like the wine. If you don't love it, you aren't even trying.

El Novillero

4216 Franklin Boulevard
Sacramento, CA 95820-1136
(916) 456-4287

Oh, The Nov! This place is a freaking institution of Sacramento. Located in a shadier area of Franklin, they are nice enough to have a well lit parking lot, and the place sort of looks out of place. But people flock here.

When you go in the middle of the restaurant is done up like an outside courtyard. We ended up in a back room all by ourselves which at first I was sad about. Then I started hearing the screaming kids and crying babies. Back room was just fine.

The food here is sort of like the Mexican you grew up with. Solid, delicious, and a ton! Seriously, Bump's burrito was bigger than his head. His leftovers barely fit into the Styrofoam takeout container. And if you know to ask, they will give you flour tortilla chips which are the tastiest damn things ever! And have I talked about the beans? I couldn't stop eating them. Nairb cleaned his plate, we still don't know how.

One drunk noted that there is a 3 booze limit. After her initial outrage she came to realize that is was more of a dare. Eat an entree and just TRY to keep drinking.

The Nov has been in business for so long for a very good reason. Comfort food at it's best.
