A couple of our sometimes drunks once had a bartender friend Rene. He moved over to Red Lotus to work on their back porch in a new tiki-themed concept and we had to come try it out.
Now I've heard some folks criticize Red Lotus, but you won't hear that here. This is our first Thursday outing but some of us have been here many, many times. The drinks are high end and impeccable and the food is inventive, delicious and priced well as long as you're not a linebacker looking for a Golden Corral.
We started off at happy hour inside at the main bar. Old fashion hit the spot - one of the best in Sacramento. Then as folks showed up we moved to the back porch and basically filled it up with our group of about 17 drunks. Rene was a trooper making us pretty much one of everything on the drink menu out there (which is completely different from the menu inside).
All the drinks are classic or based on classic tiki fare and yes they are fruity, but they will also kick your ass and blow up your skirt at the same time. We even got a couple off menu drinks like the Fog Cutter which I would highly recommend.
When our food showed up we relegated ourselves to the tables and dug in. The dim sum style promotes sharing so lovely tidbits just kept getting passed around. The beef chow fun was a winner along with any fried rice (kimchi especially), and the kung pao chicken wings were just about perfect.
Come to happy hour to check the place out, but take a group of friends to get into the more interesting foods. And share, for god's sake!
Best quote of the night:
"This food is so good. Holy balls, that was awesome." - Jarla
