Bumpy's House of Fun & Grilling & Pool & Drinky Punch

Undisclosed Roseville Location

We like us some house-hosted Thursdays! As much as we love going out, it's nice to throw in a home with cheap bring-what-you-have booze and some quick and easy grill food. This week we traveled to Bump's house and were treated to the best Prosecco sangria I have ever had. At one point I asked if there was just Prosecco in it and Bump said, "Oh, no! There's a crap load of booze in there!" I loved it even more.

Food included every type of meat product that could be grilled and then eaten poolside. Yeah, hard life we have. Our favorite Momma J even made us a whole tray full of chocolate on chocolate cupcakes. They should be called chocolate orgy cakes.

Well, I would share some of the journal ramblings but they have all been censored for more than normal dirty innuendo. Actually, no innuendo at all...it's just dirty. The best kind of dirty. Earmuffs kids.

BeerTweetup - Pangaea Two Brews Cafe

If you have read our blog, you know we are huge fans of Pangaea Two Brews Cafe. We were there last month and shared a lot of beer with strangers. We went for Sacramento Beer Week in February. And started our love affair with this place and their Belgium style beers in August of last year.

It's pretty unheard of for the Thursday Drunks to go somewhere 3 times in one year. We barely get to most places once a year! So when the Sacramento BeerTweetup was taking shape we decided to join in the fun. Yes, we are on twitter! http://twitter.com/thursdaydrunks and see where we are going and tips on happy hours, drink specials or just what we are drinking.

So here is your official invitation!

Samurai Sushi - Birth of Sluggy

Samurai Sushi
12251 Folsom Boulevard
Rancho Cordova, CA 95742-6305
(916) 353-1112

What's the other thing pregnant ladies can't have besides booze? Raw fish! So, it's Sluggy's birthday and she has chosen to eat every piece raw fish she can find and wash it down with a little vino. That's what the birthday girl gets!

Had a full house with some parents of drunks who made a heart-shaped German chocolate cake. Yeah, they are welcome any time. Sluggy requested handmade, crafty gifts so she ended up with a lot of wine dressed up in crafty cozies. Very nice!

They have a weeknight deal of $7 rolls (only about 8 to choose from but they are yummy) but you have to order a minimum of 2. Pretty good price!

Best misunderheard quote of the evening:
"I need to bedazzle a dress tonight" - Momma J
"You're dazzling with breasts tonight" - What Shooter heard

Chicago Fire - Birth of Cpt. Crabby Pants

Chicago Fire
614 Sutter Street
Folsom, CA 95630-2573
(916) 353-0140
If you are a boy in our group, you apparently need to eat here for your birthday.

I can't think of anywhere else Crabby has asked to go for his big day, and we don't mind at all! Everything here is good. We just had pizza last week, and we can't get enough once we walk through the doors at Chicago Fire.

And we met our very littlest drunk at only 2 weeks old. That's mom enjoying a post pregnancy glass of wine. She swears wine has become way more tasty than it used to be!

Deep dish, thin crust, salads, Pabst on tap, Slug Gulch wine and one really funny youtube video all about County Law. Damn fine night.

Brick Oven Pizza

1188 35th Avenue
Sacramento, CA 95822
(916) 393-3320

It's been years since we've been to Brick Oven Pizza but damn, it's tasty! Now, if you only like going places in Midtown with floor to ceiling windows, this is not the place for you. If you like Zelda's and delicious pizza, than you're good!

This place has been here for years. It's owned by an older white guy and his Hawaiian wife which translates into a lot of Hawaiian decor, Kahlua pork and spam on the menu and an overall kick back vibe. It's salt of the earth, not trendy meat-market.

The mushrooms are the favorite because they slice them really thin and pile them on. We ended up with Super 8 combo that included pepperoni, linguica, anchovies, mushrooms, olives, sausage and two things I can't remember. Also had a simple pepperoni, mushroom, olive. The crust is really crispy on the bottom, but doughy on the top - holding in all those meaty juices. We ended up paying about $7.50 each which might be a bit expensive but my taste buds said it was worth it.

They have your basic pitchers of beer and a couple of wine selections. This comes with some drunk regulars that hang out at the bar and a couple old codgers playing pool and drinking beer after they went grocery shopping next door. We took over the place with a dozen drunks and a couple of kids. It's comfy enough to just spread out and take your time while the kids run around and play. We had the fortune of getting Coach to join us as well as the Good Doctors and their rugrats. Jarla was back from her trip so it was a full, fun house!

Journal tidbits:
"I've never been to prison, but it sounds like prison." - Coach
"I'm feeling Shooter out." - Dr. Smooth
"See you again? This place? 5 years?" - Dr. Beacky, apparently the last time she saw Coach was here...5 years ago.
"Puffin wasn't as delicious as it should have been." - Scribby

Smashburger & Sundance Bar - Birth of Shooter

5500 Sunrise Boulevard
Citrus Heights, CA 95610-7641
(916) 966-1562

Sundance Bar & Restaurant
5430 Sunrise Boulevard
Citrus Heights, CA 95610-7805
(916) 962-1666

Many years ago a gambling man was born. He loves beer (I mean, really loves beer), political satire, all things electronic, and his Steam Buggy. Shooter wanted burgers, so Shooter got burgers!

We headed to Smashburger in Citrus Heights. They are a new chain that has come to town and has had great reviews. The burgers were delicious and the fries may have been even better! Portions on the fries are small so just start with the larger size. I tried the Veggie Frites, deep fried asparagus, green beans and carrots. They were not great. Too many carrots, super stringy and over cooked green beans. Next time I'll just go straight for the fries. Oh by the way, the sweet potato fries are great!

Back to the burgers. You can pretty much build your own with lots of different options or go for a favorite combo. We had the Barbecue Bacon Cheeseburger and it was delicious! Also have some salads and shakes that looked great, but no one tried.

Now the crappy thing. No liquor license. Seriously. They have beer mugs and it's listed on their menu but no actual booze yet. They served Bump's soda in a beer mug to make up for it, which was cool.

I can't get my panties in too much of a wad over the dryness of Smashburger because we ended up at the Sundance Bar about a block away and it was awesome! It's probably been there since the dawn of time. It's dark and old, has all sorts of crap on the walls and it's just perfect! That giant beer in the photo below was $7. The rum and cokes came in a pint glass and were $6. They even have a full menu that they cook next door. It was perfect for Shooter's birthday because Johnny Cash was all over that jukebox. We need to come back here as the main event next time.

On the baby front, our procreating drunks went into labor on Thursday (that's classy!), and birthed out our newest addition the next day. Yay to Sluggy & Captain Crabby Pants!

Twilight Thursday, Rockabilly & Rat Rods

3930 West Land Park Drive
Sacramento, CA 95822
(916) 808-5888

The Zoo stays open late on Thursdays in the summer and has cars shows and live music so we thought we'd check it out. Plus they are were serving chicken and waffles which is one of our favorites. The meet up for Tweeter people (#zootweetup) was also happening and since most of us are on Twitter we got in for half price and hung out in the VIP area. Mostly for the seating and free donuts.

The chicken and waffles were actually really good. Color us surprised! The waffle was large and fluffy and the chicken was well seasoned and moist. Only thing is we would have like the chicken with a bit more kick and we miss the cinnamon in the waffle like Holy Chick n' Waffles does it. (Now closed, RIP Holy Chick n' Waffles). The beer & wine selection was thin, but that didn't stop us from having some.

Nickel Slots played and they were pretty good. The Rat Rod car show was also cool, it brought out the cool Rockabilly chicks so that's awesome. Only complaint for a Thursday venue is that it ends at 8pm. The littlest drunks Fusserella thought this was the best Thursday ever, mostly because she got to walk around with mommy and see giraffes and tigers and flamingos. Usually she just has to stare at us all night. Not nearly as cool.
