Manderes, Birth of Slug & Crab

402 E Bidwell
Folsom, CA 95630
(916) 986-9655

Another birthday Thursday! This time we doubled up with Captain Crabbypants and Sluggy. And we celebrate with meat! Burgery goodness.

Manderes recently moved into a bigger place, but it's still pretty darn small. NakedBob and Crabby hadn't seen each other in a wild so they were sort of stupid for each other. Made for a damn fine Thursday.

"Did I show you mine?" - Crabby to NakedBob
"She enjoys it some nights, less on others." - Bump

Magpie Cafe, Birth of Shooter

1409 R Street
Sacramento, CA 95811
(916) 452-7594

We've loved this place from the beginning, but now everyone knows. Even Mayor Johnson does, since he strolled in with his giant bodyguard while we were eating.

We started to by occupying separate tables and the lovely ladies who work there slowing made our group into a large L-shaped table that seated our 15+ drunks. It's amazing how many people come out for a good place and a birthday Thursday! Shooter is another year older and needed a good dose of good food.

We racked up $400 in amazingly good food, wine and beer. Oh man, just look at the pictures below. Everything is freaking delicious.

Some newbies came and we initiated them but showing off our best sides. Like stealing a partial bottle of wine off of another table and pouring it into their glasses. Yup. We're classy. Damn classy.

"I've never been to one of these! I'm trepidatious...but intrigued." -Kelly

Szechuan Garden

4804 San Juan Avenue
Fair Oaks, CA 95628
(916) 961-9381

Sometime Chinese food just hits the spot. Filling, tasty and pretty damn affordable when you order family style. Sizzling fried rice started off the meal and everyone was full of starchy meaty goodness by the end of it.

And that's all I got...

Red Lotus & Tiki Bar

2718 J Street
Sacramento, CA 95816-4314
(916) 231-0961

A couple of our sometimes drunks once had a bartender friend Rene. He moved over to Red Lotus to work on their back porch in a new tiki-themed concept and we had to come try it out.

Now I've heard some folks criticize Red Lotus, but you won't hear that here. This is our first Thursday outing but some of us have been here many, many times. The drinks are high end and impeccable and the food is inventive, delicious and priced well as long as you're not a linebacker looking for a Golden Corral.

We started off at happy hour inside at the main bar. Old fashion hit the spot - one of the best in Sacramento. Then as folks showed up we moved to the back porch and basically filled it up with our group of about 17 drunks. Rene was a trooper making us pretty much one of everything on the drink menu out there (which is completely different from the menu inside).

All the drinks are classic or based on classic tiki fare and yes they are fruity, but they will also kick your ass and blow up your skirt at the same time. We even got a couple off menu drinks like the Fog Cutter which I would highly recommend.

When our food showed up we relegated ourselves to the tables and dug in. The dim sum style promotes sharing so lovely tidbits just kept getting passed around. The beef chow fun was a winner along with any fried rice (kimchi especially), and the kung pao chicken wings were just about perfect.

Come to happy hour to check the place out, but take a group of friends to get into the more interesting foods. And share, for god's sake!
