Shady Lady Saloon

1409 R Street, #101
Sacramento, CA 95811

I love this place. They care about their booze and they don't cater to beginner drinkers. You have to appreciate that. Vodka is not on the menu. Prohibition era booze only so we drunks are happy little goldfish. Gin given the respect it deserves. Bourbon in more than a mint julep. Rum in kick-you-in-the-teeth but soft around the edges cocktails.

If you don't know what to order, ask the uberinformed bartenders. And be patient. They make all their own mixers (bitters, tonic, everything) and the drinks are complicated, so they take a little extra love. You won't be disappointed. I bet if you try a booze you don't usually like, you'll like it here.

They vibe is everything from business happy hour to hipster date night. Come as you are and make it your own.

The food is quite good as well. Portions may be small, but the quality is worth it. Duck confit tater tots are to die for. They're not shy about having headcheese on the meat plate and even their salads are delicious. They tend to the more decedent comfort food, but have some lighter options as well.

It can get busy and they often have old thyme bands, so if you shy away from that sort of thing get your day drink on, or stop by for happy hour. The deals are great!
